September has been a whirlwind of joy and celebration for us this month, as my partner and I celebrated a very special occasion - our wedding! We tied the knot on the beautiful island of Ærø in Denmark, surrounded by a small circle of family and friends. It was a spontaneous decision, but with the help of my incredible family, we made it all come together perfectly. It was an unforgettable day - filled with love, laughter, and a lot of happy surprises. We had a small ceremony in the charming town hall of Ærøskøbing, followed by a relaxed photo shoot at the beach. Lunch at Mumm restaurant was delicious, and my sister crafted the most creative cake to top it off! We ended the day with a cozy BBQ at the house, and to make it even more special, my partner’s friends flew all the way from the US to surprise him! (Everyone was in on it except for him!)
After the celebrations, we took a little road trip, slowly making our way back to Stuttgart. We had some nostalgic stops in Hamburg and Düsseldorf along the way. Hamburg holds a special place in my heart - it’s been 11 years since I lived there, and it felt like a beautiful full-circle moment to return. We visited my all-time favorite museum, the MK&G, where two exhibitions really stood out - one exploring the future of water and the other showcasing the delightful illustrations of Anna Haifisch. Both are on until mid-October, and I highly recommend them if you're in the area! We also indulged in some classic northern delights like Fischbrötchen and Franzbrötchen, and of course, we couldn’t resist a stroll through Sternschanze and the harbor and some amazing smash burgers. In Düsseldorf, we dove into the world of Japanese cuisine (a favorite of ours!) and had incredible soba noodles on our first night. The city’s rich cultural offerings didn’t disappoint either—the Gerhard Richter exhibition at Kunstpalast was fascinating. His larger abstract works are on display until February, so if you’re nearby, it’s well worth a visit. And to wrap up our mini honeymoon, we savored some authentic sushi at Nagomi before heading back home to Stuttgart.
September was also a milestone for my nephew, who had his first day of school! My sister and I had a lot of fun crafting his Schultüte - a German tradition where children receive a cone filled with treats on their first day of school. He’s into LEGO Ninjago this year, so we went all out with custom-printed fabric and his favorite characters. The joy on his face was priceless!
On our way back to Nuremberg, we made sure to visit some of our dear friends in Stuttgart and Karlsruhe. It was such a joy to catch up with them, reminiscing over old memories while making new ones. We spent the best time laughing, sharing stories, and dreaming up future plans together - a perfect way to round out a month full of love and celebration.
After returning home, we jumped right back into work. There was little time to pause, as we sorted out visa applications and prepared for George’s upcoming German test. But now that things have settled, I’m diving back into the studio, focusing on new embroidery pieces, the blog, and some exciting updates for the online shop. I can’t wait to share what’s coming next!
How was your September? Did you discover any inspiring exhibitions? If you’re in Munich, the Viktor & Rolf exhibition at the Kunsthalle is running until October 6th - it’s a must-see!
Sending you all warmth and creative energy as we move into the heart of autumn.
With love and stitches,
Tatjana
