In this mindful exploration, there's no rush, no skipping—just a close connection with the fabric. The folds, random and intuitive, become a canvas for inspiration. As the needle traces its path, it responds to the fabric's folds, lines and corners, embracing them with curiosity and wonder.
This whimsical collection took root in the shade of a walnut tree in my parents' garden. Drawn into the world of ink making, I experimented with walnut husks. The process led me to handmade inks used to dye fabrics, and the dyed threads found their way into contemporary embroideries.
As a pattern maker, I sometimes test designs in plain cotton fabric before cutting the original fabric. For this collection, I repurposed a toile from a dress made for my grandma. The ink, applied with a brush, interacted uniquely with the fabric, creating layers of color and texture. Each piece, a canvas born from old seams, folds, and uneven coloring, became a playground for my stitches.
Stitching, a skill woven into the fabric of my upbringing, holds a special place in my heart. From my grandmas to my (grand-)aunties and even my dad, hand-stitching was always present in our home. The stitches, some known since the age of six, slowly collected over the years through internships, fashion studies, and mindful stitching classes during the pandemic.
